Unique to the Kendal area, grey freestone flagstones are a typical vernacular flooring stone found in period homes from the 1700s through to the late 1800's.Freestone is so called because it can be cut freely in all directions, It makes an amazing floor when laid in period properties, and if you are lucky it often has fossilised elements which add character and interest.
