A generously proportioned Victorian Chesterfield sofa, English, circa 1870–1900, re-upholstered in a lovely subtle lime coloured fabric.
The form is quintessentially Victorian — deep scroll arms of equal height to the back, a long generous seat, and the characteristic low, sweeping silhouette that distinguishes the true antique Chesterfield from its many modern imitations.
A sofa of this age and quality brings with it something no modern piece can offer: the bones of Victorian craftsmanship beneath, built on a hardwood frame with traditional sprung seating that, properly maintained, will outlast anything made today.
