Nigel Edmondson was a local artist whose work incorporates landscape-based abstraction that reflects and responds to the Lakeland Fells in Cumbria, where he lived with his wife Libby, who was also an accomplished artist.
Most of Nigel’s work is hand-built using slab construction, coiling and, occasionally, throwing and coiling in combination. Craft-crank is used, fired to 1250°C in oxidation. Firing to this temperature ensures that all the work is frost-proof and can safely be left outside all year. Limited use is made of matt glazes with other colour coming from metal oxides and high firing slips. On occasion the work is fired several times to allow for further refinement of the ‘painted’ surface.
