Cliveden Vase
Regular price £249.00 Save £-249.00The Cliveden Vase is a bold garden container. The National Trust commissioned this replica to replace damaged containers at Cliveden in Buckinghamshire, now considered one of the world’s finest luxury hotels. Owned and managed by the National Trust, the gardens include everything from charming riverside walks to a formal parterre, and woodland vistas to water gardens, plus a wealth of statuary and topiary.
Charles Bridgeman (1690–1738) laid out the grounds and walks in the eighteenth century, whilst the architect Charles Barry (1795 –1860) rebuilt Cliveden as a majestic Italianate villa following a catastrophic fire in 1849. It is considered to be one of Barry’s masterpieces. Guests have included every British monarch since George I. In 1893 the house was bought by the Astor family, amongst America’s richest citizens. Cliveden then became the hub of a hectic social whirl where guests included everyone from Charlie Chaplin to Winston Churchill and, more notoriously, John Profumo and Christine Keeler.
