Oubas Knitwear is based in a workshop within an old house on a Woodland estate in the English Lake District, surrounded by trees and wildlife, as well as other creative artists and businesses, and a sustainably managed woodlands. Designer and owner Kate Wilson founded the brand in the autumn of 2012, from a desire to design and make quality products, here in Britain.
The studio is where she designs and produces most of the pieces. Some of the range is produced in Scottish knitwear mills. Old Italian and Japanese made machines are used to knit and manufacture the pieces, linking and hand finishing before finally pressing and labelling.
Inspiration is taken from the moods and light in the changing landscapes around, from Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, and from textures and tones found in the everyday.
