We are delighted to announce this event at Yew Tree Barn on 17 May 2019, when we welcome Rob Caskie - a well known professional speaker with amazing stories to tell.
What qualities make a great leader? This will be explored through the extraordinary polar expeditions of intrepid explorers Captain Robert Falcon Scott and Captain Ernest Shackleton and their contrasting but heroic attempts to reach the South Pole a century or so ago, told by Rob Caskie, Professional Story-teller.
This presentation initially takes the audience to the South Pole with Scott’s party of five in January 1912, and the tragic deaths of all the men en route ‘home’.  Did they die psychologically when they found Amundsen had beaten them to the Pole by 34 days?
Scott’s Antarctic rival, Ernest Shackleton is then discussed in detail – his ship crushed by ice, and 28 men living on the ice for 16 months before their extraordinary leader sails 1,200km across the Southern Ocean to get help from South Georgia.

Praise for Rob Caskie
"Storytelling is an ancient art, and the basics haven’t changed: a compelling story centering on heroic characters and events, and a narrator with the dramatic skills and power of personality to bring them alive. Rob Cassie has these qualities in abundance, and his mesmerising performances have all the power of a great actor. I have rarely witnessed a performance as magnetic as Rob’s on the battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift in Zululand, and I’ve watched with admiration as Rob has widened his repertoire to include other great feats of human endeavour far afield from his native South Africa. If you have an opportunity to see this extraordinary man in action, don’t miss it!"
John Fisher Burns, The New York Times
